Malema and Bushiri after meeting

Malawi’s most famous – and wealthiest – prophet Shepherd Bushiri who is based in South Africa ministering his Enlightment Christian Gathering church has received a boost of that country’s prominent politicians who have given their weight to his the Man of God, saying his calling is a blessing to the rainbow nation. [caption id="attachment_101806" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri and South African's Home Affairs minister Bushiri and South African's Home Affairs minister[/caption] [caption id="attachment_101807" align="alignright" width="600"]Malema and Bushiri after meeting Malema and Bushiri after meeting[/caption] Bushiri, since his return from Malawi where he had gone for charity initiatives, has received in audience of two influential South African politicians. He has been visited by Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi  Nkanyezi Gigaba and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema. The two politicians separately paid a “spiritual visit” to Prophet Bushiri the ‘Major 1’ to meet and create friendship with this son of Africa. Bushiri is getting more famous for his prophesies faith healing and humanitarian work. The South African Home Affairs Minister told Bushiri that the government of President Jacob Zuma is impressed with people of meaningful development ideas that help economy of the continent’s second largest economy like ‘Major 1’. He assured him that South Africa is “pleased” to have progressive religious leaders like Prophet Bushiri and other preachers of his calibre. “I personally love preachers like Bushiri who are humble and don’t depend on the church offerings but learn to rely on themselves,” he said after the meeting. The Minister said he was pleased to note that Bushiri, apart from his faith work, he is an entrepreneur of high repute. During the meeting with Malema, a controversial but prominent politician in the economic giant nation, Bushiri said he was humbled with the visit. Malema said he had visited the Malawian prophet to ask for blessings for the journey ahead and praised Bushiri as a “great inspiration.” “We must not take his success for a play but learn from him,” said Malema. Malema advised Malawians to “stop pulling down fellow Malawians if your country is to develop and also if you are to attain individual prosperity.” The EEF leader said he strongly believes Bushiri is a “true and genuine” Man of God and that “Africa needs such men of God.” Bushiri has been dominating headlines in Malawi and international media over his acquisition of a third jet and the charity works he has done. As the newsmaker of the moment, Bushiri has also been dominating interview programs on Malawi television stations, Zodiak and Times TV. In a Times TV interview with host Brian Banda, Bushiri defended with lavish lifestyle of flying in private jet, having posh cars, repeatedly stating that it is a Malawian mentality to think men of God should be poor. “You cannot compare now and 2000 years ago. Jesus was using a donkey or a ship and in those days a donkey was like a [Mercedes] Benz,” he said. He also hit at “most Malawians” who “just know the verse that talks about false prophets” rising in the last days, saying the same Bible talks about God pouring his spirit on young men so that they can prophesy and see visions. “South Africa and other African countries have welcomed me as a man of God and not as Bushiri. Malawi and some other people have welcomed me as Bushiri, but other countries have welcomed me as a prophet. I know no matter what I can do, I will still have people in my country who will never believe me because it is biblical [that a prophet is without honour in his own country] and it has to pass,” said Bushiri. He also defended his followers for calling him ‘Major 1’ or ‘Papa’, saying the same elements are prevalent in other churches such as Catholic. “In the Catholic Church we call [bishops] Ambuye [Pope is called his Holiness]. If they give that name to Bushiri, the whole Malawi is going to be like he is God. But if that name is given to a Catholic priest, why is it that there is no question mark?” queried Bushiri. Bushiri said he is not a public figure living on tax payer’s money to be dictated on his lifestyle over his “I am not using public money to be dictated to say don’t do this; use this money to do this… It is my personal money. My wife and I work for that money and to another journalist who said ‘you are coming from a poor country, why don’t you use the money for the poor’ my answer was: praise God you have mentioned that I am coming from that poor country. “I worked hard. Those poor people should work hard and become what they want to become and praise God, in our country, we have many people who have come from poverty, from scratch, and they are doing well. That’s what we need,” enthused Bushiri. Bushiri is gaining a foothold in Africa from church-goers who seek to be healed and cleansed of evil spirits that stand between them and personal advancement The miracle preacher who was appointed the president of African Christian Coalition for Israel (AFRICCI), a charity organisation, also believes he can help African governments in development matters. Secretary General for AFRICCI Catherine Nabagesera Naava, said about Bushiri: “We have also monitored Prophet Bushiri for some time and we have realised he has been instrumental to Malawi’s development and despite being a prophet, he is also an entrepreneur and patriotic citizen. His love for investments and entrepreneurship is just so inspiring. At the same time, religious leaders have more influence on their followers than political leaders”.

"I support the government and I support His Excellency Professor Peter Mutharika. A leader is given by God. As a church leader, am mandated to support him and remain his pillar in all well being matters. This is biblical and not political. Am a  religious leader and not a politician. I go by biblical and spiritual doctrine. “ My help towards the people suffering with hunger at the moment is part of it and I will do all I can to help our government, the leadership in particular," said Bushiri. According to information made available to Nyasa Times, Bushiri's first stop of donation is Zomba where he is expected to help thousands of families with maize.

Over 5,000 bags, each weighing 25kg, were offloaded and distributed to the needy. Speaking after making the donation, Bushiri said apart from helping people spiritually, his prophetic church has an obligation to help people even on food distribution. “God sent me as a man of God not only to assist people spiritually, but also socially,” he said. Bushiri explained that Malawi needs help from all sectors and he is taking a leading role to help government address hunger issues. "I understand that there is hunger in our country. We cannot deny that fact and we cannot wait for government to address the crisis alone,” said Bushiri accompanied by his army of "evangelists". Bushiri said he understands that a lot of countries in the Southern Africa have been hit by food shortage and pledged to continue assisting government. “This is what the church is about. It's about giving,” said Bushiri. He also said people should not politicise his charity activities as he has no political ambitions. “I am contented as a church leader and have no political ambitions,” he asserted. Bushiri also said as a church leader he supports and work with a government of the day, saying he will help President Peter Mutharika in the fight against hunger and any challenges the nation is facing. “As a church leader, am mandated to support our President and remain his pillar in all well being matters. This is biblical and not political. Am a religious leader and not a politician. I go by biblical and spiritual doctrine,” he stated. Bushiri prayed for people in the area, saying apart from relief items, flood they also need religious care for them to build their spiritual relationship with God. Over 3,000 households who have failed to get the bag of maize will receive cash to be able to buy rice,” said Bushiri to  cheering crowds. Bushiri’s team of “evangelists” from Prophetic TV were seen distributing the money to those who failed to get the maize. The spokesman of the Prophet, Kelvin Sulungwe told Nyasa Times that the ‘Major 1’  pumped about K85 million in the exercise. About 2.8 million people are grappling hunger in Malawi due to poor harvest caused by the El nino weather pattern. Floods and drought have hit the country’s staple maize crop resulting to poor harvest in the region. Malawi is said to be the hardest hit country affected by the prolonged dry spells in southern Africa further revealing the country’s inability to tackle food shortages, according to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Bushiri said it is the responsibility of every Malawian to help the people facing hunger in the country, saying the government alone cannot reach out to them. “As Prophet Bushiri, I understand the responsibilities of the citizen,' he said. The Major 1 added: 'As Malawians, we are supposed to work with the government of the day to help the needy. I, being a religious and Christian leader, I am an example to my community and what I am doing here is what I preach in the church. 'This should serve as a message to everyone that let us do this work, let us help the needy and those who are suffering,” he said. Bushiri, who was also previously involved in similar charity works last month, said he will return in the country soon to help flood victims in Karonga.

During the ceremony, chaos erupted as people struggled to get a bag of maize [each weighing 25 kilograms] despite their being enough for everyone. Nyasa Times understands that the prophet’s way is “everyone should go home with a bag.” Asked where they would be heading to after Karonga, Sulugwe said it all depended on “the prophet with his God.” Sulugwe said no one in the ECG family knew they would get “as far as Karonga. We don’t know where we will go next.” Sulugwe revealed that they had offloaded about twelve trucks so far in their campaign to help people who have no food in the country. ‘Major 1’ has repeatedly said that he will “support” every leadership in supporting the citizenry. On the second day, the ‘Major 1’ joined his Prophetic TV team distributing the maize to Karonga Hospital in the company of T A Kyungu who welcomed the donation to his area. According to Bushiri, it is his quest to help government deal with the hunger crisis that has hit Malawi so badly. “Am so much impressed with government’s effort to deal with this problem and I feel proud to be part of the solution towards the hunger at hand,” Bushiri told local reporters who attended the ceremony at Karonga District Hospital on Wednesday, explaining further that “It is our duty as Malawi citizens to help the government and support the needy.” On his part, T A Kyungu commended Bushiri for his kind gesture and appealed to other quarters to come and help because so many people have been affected with the problem. “I was happy when I heard of the prophet’s visitation to the area. This is what I have been praying for, to see help for the people who have been affected with the hunger crisis in my area. Prophet Bushiri came at the right time and this is a blessing to me,” explained T A Kyungu. Asked whether he was comfortable to welcome Bushiri’s donations following reports that some chiefs have been threatened by government officials not to welcome the donations in their area, Kyungu laughed it off, maintaining that “Bushiri’s coming to help my area is timely.” Bushiri has so far helped people in Ntcheu, Dowa, Mzuzu, Zomba and Lilongwe spending over MK100 million for the exercise that has reached out to thousands of beneficiaries across the country. Of late, Bushiri has met resistance from other chiefs to accept his donations for poor people because of fear that government will blacklist them and think that they are helping Bushiri score a political point. However, speaking to Times TV with Brian Banda on Times Exclusive, Bushiri made it clear that he has no political ambitions. “Am happy with what I do and I don’t intend to contest for what you call ‘Hot Seat’ because that would be demotion to me,” Bushiri told Brian Banda on Times TV. the prophet’s public relations consultant Kelvin Sulungwe also told Nyasa Times that Bushiri candidly declared that he is content with his position as church leader , entrepreneurship and does not harbour any ambitions for political office.

His quest has been unstoppable. South African based Malawian Prophet who is also leader and founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church Prophet Shepherd Bushiri on Thursday gave MK7 million to Mzuzu Prison on top of maize and blankets donations. "I shed tears when the officer-in-charge explained the conditions that inmates are going through at this prison. The feeling to help them was just too much in my heart and I believe my donations will make a difference," said the Man of God. Bushiri explained that Jesus died for those weak in faith, citing that his obligation as a spiritual leader is to help such lost sheep. "I know people might not understand why am doing this, but if you read your bible very well, you will realise that Jesus never despised sinners. Actually, the first person to whom he guaranteed salvation was a thief that he was hanged with," said Bushiri. Speaking during the ceremony, Wasili who is the Officer in Charge for Mzuzu Prison thanked Prophet Shepherd Bushiri for the donations saying "Its timely." "I can’t thank him enough but this is what we have been waiting for. “We have so many inmates here and it has been worrying us all seeing the conditions which they are going through. This donation has come at a right time and we will make use if this. We will also share the brackets with other prisons in the North," said Wasili. According to statistics at the prison, the place was built to accommodate 200 inmates, but so far, it has over 500 inmates, a scenario that has brought about unspeakable problems at the institution. Bushiri also took his charitable donations to St Johns Hospital in Mzuzu and distribute relief maize to thousands at Zolozolo community in Mzuzu.

Bushiri came on a chopper to his birthday bash

Leader and founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church Prophet Shepherd Bushiri on Saturday celebrated his birthday in style at his church in South Africa. The celebration also attracted a number of public figures including his spiritual father Uebert Angel based in UK,  Nigerian actor  “Akina Ukwa” Osita Iheme, South Africa's Prophet Keke and Prince Lindani of Swaziland. Malawi's top gospel singers Mlaka Maliro, Ethel Kamwendo and Thocco Katimba were also spotted at the birthday celebration. Pitch of the ceremony was when Prophet Shepherd Bushiri announced the adoption of two South African orphanages, giving to them R300 thousand each (about MK12 million), spending a total of R600 thousand (about MK24 million). Bushiri also pledged to build houses for the two orphanages that are sheltering poor kids. The ‘Major 1’ has lately involved himself in humanitarian work, a result that saw him donating maize in Malawi in the districts of Zomba, Karonga, Dowa and the cities of Mzuzu and Lilongwe, spending millions of Kwachas. In Malawi, his quest to reach out to the poor has been met with mixed reactions with others alleging that he is eying the hot seat of ''Presidency' in 2019. However, Bushiri has constantly and confidently refuted the assertion, saying standing for a presidential seat would be "demotion" to him for he is above presidents materially. His Public Relations Officer Kelvin Sulugwe spoke to Nyasa Times saying the man of God is simply "a prophet with a heart to help." "Prophet Shepherd Bushiri helps a lot of people, it’s just a pity that the media pays a blind eye to such projects but only rushes to report negatives. "If it was in Malawi, the gesture he has done today to the two orphanages would have been met with so many false and negative reports. If it is about scoring political points, should we also assume that he wants to contest here in South Africa? People should simply accept that fact he is a man of God taking a leading role in doing good works," explained Sulugwe, speaking from South Africa.

Major 1 Bushiri :Pens Mutharika

Malawian famous Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church International (ECG) has written an open letter to President Peter Mutharika  expressing concern over the technical ban government has given his relief support to people affected by hunger in the country. [caption id="attachment_95090" align="alignright" width="600"]Major 1 Bushiri :Pens Mutharika Major 1 Bushiri :Pens Mutharika[/caption] Bushiri, who is based in South Africa, has been distributing maize across the country to starving villagers. He has, however, announced suspension of the charity as government operatives are frustrating his initiative and politicising the donations. The ‘Major 1’ said  in a strong worded open letter to Mutharika he has lately been facing “obstacles” from people “protecting President Peter Mutharika’s political interests”. The letter posted on Bushiri’s Facebook page,  the  wealthy prophet said the President’s royalists believe he [Bushiri] is harbouring presidential ambitions and that his popularity can affect Mutharika’s chances of retaining his seat in the 2019 elections, hence their decision to frustrate his efforts. “Your Excellency, I will resume my aid when you personally assure me that I have your support towards my efforts in salvaging the suffering citizenry of our great nation. I have only spent a quarter of my planned budget towards maize donations, but with regret, I have suspended the project,” Bushiri said. “I have said it time and again that I have no intentions of joining politics now or in the near future. I am a man of God with a prophetic anointing and I am very contented with that. Treating me as a threat is a big mistake that your machinery is making.” Bushiri admitted in the letter that the suspension  of the maize and cash handouts will neither affect him nor Mutharika, but the people who are suffering, adding that “If you [Mutharika] have their affairs at heart, then you will publicly support my efforts to help them.” He further claimed that most chiefs have been afraid to cooperate with him “because they are scared of your [Mutharika’s] machinery which has waged war under a mission of bringing down my humanitarian efforts.” The Man of God pointed out that that President Mutharika could not be aware of the bottlenecks he is facing in donating the maize. Presidential Press Secretary Gerald Viola said President Mutharika has not received any communication from Bushiri. He however persuaded Bushiri to “engage the President. About 3 million Malawians are facing food crisis due to the drought has hit many part of Southern Africa and floods that Malawi experienced last year.

Bushiri carrying maize at Karonga district hospital

In his winding open letter to the State President, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri raises interesting issues that demand immediate clarification so that he understands the role that government plays to ensure smooth working relations with the religious community. [caption id="attachment_103762" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri carrying maize at Karonga district hospital Bushiri carrying maize at Karonga district hospital[/caption] That his food distribution exercise is a great gesture cannot be overstated. Thousands have already benefitted from his gesture and that goes a long way to alleviate hunger problems in our midst. What we find off in Prophet Bushiri’s communication is two fold;  him raising pertinent issues to the head of state through the social media platforms and his presentation of concerns in unprecedented manner. Why unprecedented? State and Church have always had a relationship defined by a special protocol when doing things. Note should be taken that Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECG) is not the first religious grouping to bail Malawians out in dire times like these. In the same vein, ECG is not the only religious institution at present which is going around the country to distribute food. The foregoing means that Bushiri’s concerns on not receiving enough security during his exercises are all but true. The Roman Catholic Church through their arm - Catholic Relief and Development Commission (CADECOM), CCAP Synods through their relief departments, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Anglican Church and Muslim Association of Malawi are some religious bodies coordinating distribution of thousands of tonnes of maize to Malawians across the country. Never at any time have these institutions demanded exaggerated security to carry out their exercises. This is so because tradition has it that community leaders are capable of coordinating such programs without problems at all. On assertions that some chiefs did not welcome him, all the man of God had to do was contact relevant government ministries and departments to intervene. Under normal circumstances, chiefs are the first people to welcome help for their subjects. As earlier stated, most of the things Prophet Bushiri has complained about are unfounded as they emanate from what people are saying on the social media. Most of the discussion therein is too opinionated and sensational and cannot be taken with grain truth. As things are right now, every Malawian knows that the prophet is a spiritual leader nothing else. Those who opine that he is eyeing the Presidency in 2019 are doing so within the constitutional parameters of their freedoms. It will therefore be lack of reason if anyone was to stop Bushiri's exercise on speculation based on the 2019 polls. President Mutharika has not even stopped any of his fellow politicians from opposition to help Malawians with food. How then can he stop someone whose political life is only true on the lips of rumour mongers? It is advisable that food and politics do not cross paths and this is the underlying belief within Professor Mutharika’s government. It is not late for Prophet Bushiri to book an appointment with the President where both his unfounded and founded concerns can be addressed once and for all. It is sad that the man of God has decided to suspend his exercise before sitting down with the head of state, not even his ministers or any government. Next time - to avoid similar scenarios- the Prophet will need to talk to relevant authorities to avoid getting tricked by informal platforms such as social media whose purpose is to excite those with urge for pleasure.

Onesimus | Miracle Money

A number of  musicians from Malawi are leaving secular music to become gospel artists and working with popular Malawian born prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) attracted by ‘Miracle money’. [caption id="attachment_100596" align="alignright" width="600"]Onesimus | Miracle Money Onesimus | Miracle Money[/caption] According to published reports, some of the some of the artists that are working with the prophet include Thoko Phiri, Onesimus and Gwamba. And last week during the birthday bash of the self-styled prophet, who is fondly called Major 1, other gospel artists who performed included Mlaka Maliro and Ethel Kamwendo Banda. According to a report in The Nation newspaper on Friday, the teams do not only work with the prophet, but they are also known to be his fiercest defenders on issues that attract public criticism, especially on the social platforms such as Facebook. “For example, when the popular tag of ‘miracle money’ resurfaced, people took it the social media to accuse the Prophet of satanic powers. But the likes of Onesimus went full throttle to defend Bushiri. To cap it all, Onesimus has lately released a chat bursting song titled’ Miracle Money’, which praises Bushiri’s power in churning out miracle money,” reported the daily. Prophet Bushiri is also on record to have worked with other well-known gospel artists such as Peter Sambo and Patience Namadingo. Artists such as Thocco Katimba and drummer Amos Mlolowah are also said to be ardent supporters of the prophet. Bushiri’s spokesperson Kelvin Sulungwe told the paper that the Major 1 is also into promotion of youth through job creation and nurturing talent. “On the other hand, he recognises the fact that the church has a role to create employment for young people to help government fighting the soaring unemployment rates,” said Sulungwe. Among other things, the Bushiri brand is believed to have been catapulted to fame by prophecies and miracles that are believed to come to pass among his followers.

Scramble for maize flour as Bushiri suspends humanitarian assistance

Member of Parliament for Karonga central, Frank Mwenifumbo told the House his appreciation to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church International (ECG) for  his relief support to people affected by hunger in the country. [caption id="attachment_104441" align="alignright" width="600"]Scramble for maize flour as Bushiri suspends humanitarian assistance Scramble for maize flour as Bushiri suspends humanitarian assistance[/caption] Bushiri, who is based in South Africa, has been distributing maize across the country to starving villagers. “ I want to register my thanks to Prophet Bushiri that having distributed maize across the country, from Southern Region and Central Region, he decided to come and see people in the Northern part of Malawi,” said Mwenifumbo. Bushiri has, however, announced suspension of the charity as government operatives are frustrating his initiative and politicising the donations. Nyasa Times understands that government blocked the ‘Major 1’ from landing in Karonga when he came recently to distribute maize. Bushiri was forced to land with his private jet in Tanzania at the Songwe border. National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) director Nicholous Dausi was also reportedly phoning chiefs threatening them not to receive maize from Bushiri, saying he much channel his donation to government. According to social media discussion,  Dausi phoned Chief Kyungu not to attend Bushiri maize distribution exercise but the Karonga paramount chief rebuffed him. MP Mwenifumbo reported to parliament some of  the obstacles Bushiri faced. Said Mwenifumbo: “What happened there, Mr Speaker, Sir, which I witnessed, was a very sad occurrence that a man of God, looking at the problem that we have, was stopped from distributing maize. He was stopped at Karonga Community Ground. He took the maize to Karonga District Hospital, nobody was there to receive the flour and that he left the country, without distributing. “ It is rather unfortunate. I think government should consider allowing any meaningful people that have well intentions about this country to help. Prophet Bushiri is one of our own. Whilst he is helping elsewhere, he decided to come and help us.  “ Bushiri’s spokesman Kelvin Sulungwe said there is plenty of maize that Bushiri has and wants to distribute to Malawians and can only resume his aid if there is good will from government . He said  Bushiri only spent a quarter of his  planned budget towards maize donations. Sulungwe also said Bushiri wants to help reduce unemployment to Malawian youth, citing the Prophetic Channel and the charity aid department as some of the sectors of his church that are creating employment to young people in the country. “The current maize donation alone has created jobs to youths that are working in the areas of situation analysis, logistics and actual distribution exercise. And because of this, more young people, including artists, are becoming part of the Major 1 family to help carrying on his mission,” said Sulungwe. About 3 million Malawians are facing food crisis due to the drought has hit many part of Southern Africa and floods that Malawi experienced last year.

Bushiri and his congregants

South African based Malawian Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, the leader and founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church over the weekend continued to celebrate his birthday by taking on a cruise from Durban to Portuguese Island preaching the gospel and partying. [caption id="attachment_104677" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri preaching in a cruise Bushiri preaching in a cruise[/caption] [caption id="attachment_104678" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri in prophetic works Bushiri in prophetic works[/caption] [caption id="attachment_104675" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri and his congregants Bushiri and his congregants[/caption] [caption id="attachment_104676" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri playing piano on cruise Bushiri playing piano on cruise[/caption] [caption id="attachment_104674" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri coming from the cruise Bushiri coming from the cruise[/caption] Bushiri spent US$5 million in the cruise party. He told congregants in the cruise party that just as people need nourishing food to survive physically, they also need the gospel of Jesus Christ to survive spiritually. The Prophet, fondly called ‘Major 1’ in cruise sermon noted that Jesus Christ Himself said, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst (John 6:35).” He also entertained the people by playing music instruments such as a piano. Speaking in an interview after the end of the cruise party, Bushiri said though he had partied with spiritual touch, he remains concerned that many Malawians who are sleeping empty stomachs as hunger continue to bite hard on the impoverished southern African nation. “I am not happy celebrating here while my countrymen are suffering. They are starving while here am eating, this is sad and am not enjoying this celebration at all,” Bushiri told Nyasa Times. He has also met “obstacles” from governing party DPP forcing him to suspend his charity work. However, Bushiri has constantly and confidently refuted the assertion, saying standing for a presidential seat would be "demotion" to him for he is above presidents materially. Bushiri who recently wrote President Peter Mutharika asking him to assure him of his security and support towards his efforts in salvaging the suffering citizenry of the nation maintained that he will resume his aid. The Prophet said he only spent a quarter of his planned budget towards maize donations. Bushiri confirmed to Nyasa Times that he received threats from DPP operatives. “I got threats from some DPP officials,” said Bushiri. Bushiri said President Mutharika has not responded to his letter. “I hope he will come back to me as I am helping him as our President. Otherwise given an OK, I will resume my project of giving food to the needy.” Bushiri stressed he has no intentions of joining politics now or in the near future. “I am a man of God with a prophetic anointing and I am very contented with that.” He further claimed that most chiefs have been afraid to cooperate with him because they are scared of Mutharika’s machinery. The Man of God pointed out that that President Mutharika could not be aware of the bottlenecks he is facing in donating the maize. Government officials reportedly told Bushiri to book an appointment with the President. But Bushiri said he is not interested to “meet” the President, all he needs is “His assurance of my safety” as well as for the safety of people while he is giving them food. Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Frank Mwenefumbo told parliament that he saw authorities threatening chiefs and people from receiving Bushiri’s maize in Karonga for fear he will get popular that the President.

Prophet Bushiri

Talks continue. Intellectuals refuse to remain put and words have been voiced out. The only task that remains is differentiating facts from opinions. Once again, just like anyone else, I refuse to remain quiet, burying my own opinion while being a consumer of irrationally baked propaganda seasoned with falsehood. [caption id="attachment_104715" align="alignright" width="462"]Prophet Bushiri Prophet Bushiri[/caption] Rumours have made rounds. Others believed them and others trashed them, but what’s the reflection of truth on the issue of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri being an elite of Joyce Banda? For starters, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is married to Prophetess Mary Bushiri who previously answered to the surname of Zgambo before the young and billionaire prophet claimed her heart to make her a “Mrs Bushiri” in a colourful ceremony at Mzuzu Stadium in 2011. Just after three years of the prophetic wedding, Mary Bushiri’s older brother David Zgambo found a place in the heart of Joyce Banda’s daughter, Kambe Banda, the rest can be calculated. The marriage scenarios stand out to define the relationship  that thinly exist between Prophet Bushiri and Joyce Banda. Despite the marriage link, Joyce Banda still looks up to Bushiri as a spiritual figure and answers to his prophetic voice when he speaks as evidenced from the visit she made to Pretoria ECG in 2016 where she also gave a brief speech, explaining her gratitude to God for Prophet Bushiri. The connection between the two revolves around the explained scenarios and does not go beyond that. Unfortunately, rumours have been created out of it with most middle politicians linking the youthful prophet to a presidential bid despite his continued refusal to contest on what is deemed as “a hot seat”. Bushiri has always made it clear to all that bidding for presidency is a total demotion to his prophetic calling. It is evident from Joyce Banda’s actions that she still eyes the presidential seat and it’s a naked fact to bet her come back in 2019. With that in mind, what would strengthen her heart to promote a political personality of a man of God, who has his efforts lining towards serving God as a prophet alone? The puzzle doesn’t need a genius to break. It’s straight forward and easy to dismantle. Joyce Banda stands independently as a politician, just the same way Bushiri stands independently as a clergy man. Associating the two to a political power bid is simply an unfortunate case that some quarters with other interests to protect have advanced. Luckily, the picture is clear to all rational minds. In his Open Letter to President Peter Mutharika, Bushiri reiterated his lack of political intentions, but simply wants to help Malawians as any responsible and abled citizen could. Talking of the Open Letter, I read a very well trained writer arguing that the letter never contained any biblical verse, apparently disqualifying it as fit to have come from the man of God. As Malawians, we have bigger problems to deal with, from mental paradigm and the hunger at hand. The letter delivered its intended purpose without any verse. As I understand, it was simply issued to address the problems on the ground and not necessarily to preach to our dearest president. Some of these arguments that learned writers have started putting up do not even make sense and simply embarrasses one’s reasoning. Perhaps, need I remind you that communication is communication, whether with or without verses. It would be acceptable to say his preaching lack verses, not a mare letter discussing problems on the ground to the head of state and the general public that consists of people from different beliefs.

[caption id="attachment_103762" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri carrying maize at Karonga district hospital Bushiri carrying maize at Karonga district hospital[/caption] Recently, Member of Parliament for Karonga central, Frank Mwenifumbo told the House his appreciation to Bushiri for his maize distribution. And adding his voice of appreciation to the famous prophet,  another independent MP Christopher Munyenyembe of Mzimba East  contributing to the Mid-Year Budget Review Statement by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development thanked Bushiri for assisting “ the vulnerable Malawians”. “I wish to invite the Prophet to go to Mzimba East Constituency, to help the vulnerable Malawians who do not have enough food,” said Munyenyembe. Bushiri, who is based in South Africa, has been distributing maize across the country to starving villagers. MP Munyenyembe said Malawi is passing through “difficult times,” and that calls for unity of purposed. “Let me remind Malawians that as we are, we are in the same boat, and if this boat is to sink, all of us would sink and we better get united for the betterment of our economy,” said Munyenyembe. Bushiri  said the has  plenty of maize that he wants to distribute to Malawians and can only resume his aid if there is good will from government .

Kalawe made a name in Dzuka Malawi music video: His new song is 'Major Sanagive'

He surprisingly stormed the local airwaves with his banger, Dzuka Malawi, which gave birth to remixes with other equally poetic rappers including Fredokiss. He proved maturity in his delivery, a scenario that prompted fans to call him the 'music genius.' [caption id="attachment_93782" align="alignright" width="600"]Kalawe made a name in Dzuka Malawi music video: His new song is 'Major Sanagive' Kalawe made a name in Dzuka Malawi music video: His new song is 'Major Sanagive'[/caption] That is Kalawe. Even though he made a name in the country, he never lost his focus. As a patriot, his music is all about Malawi. Every time he drops a song, he is like ‘let Malawi benefit from this one.’ Unlike other selfish musicians in the country who are always on every spot digging graves for fellow countrymen, Kalawe has humbly laughed their ill deeds by appreciating Malawi’s Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s work who some people choose to fight God by dirtying the anointed man’s name. Despite every smile that Bushiri who is currently ministering from South Africa gave his country, some are paid to write and spread everything that will hinder down his path just for reasons they are not sure of. Many did songs ridiculing Bushiri’s ministry and claimed his miracles to be fake but the anointed man moved from glory to glory. And Kalawe did not miss that in his ‘Major Sanagive’ song where he is rapping in thanking the prophet for his efforts to contain the hunger roar in the country even no much support to school his mate Mandela Third Eye Mwanza who took the fight with Heavens. “Iyi ndi nkhani yopherezera mwambi oti mneneri samalemekezedwa kwawo,’’ introduces the song Kalawe using a biblical verse that says a prophet is always haunted by his people, just like Jesus Christ who was crucified by his own countrymen. He further in the song highlights why the Major Prophet moved from Mzuzu to Lilongwe and later found an environment in a foreign land and treated as a king while his people stoned him despite their nation being sick and needed a quick God’s intervention. The song has a lot. Simply a food for thought for people who are equipped to fight God when God is using his messengers to save them from the shame of sin which comes with poverty and hunger. According to Kalawe’s gospel, poverty leads to jealousy and Malawi being the poorest country needs to swallow its pride and accept Bushiri so that devil will be taken down from wheeling down the nation’s economy. The song Major Sanagive (Major 1 did not give up) has been recorded at SU Records, mastered by Janta with a beat that will make even Satan himself come in and appreciate the good work Heavenly God is doing through his Prophet Bushiri. “I know I might get me a few more critics for this one, some crooked minds be thinking I do this for the miracle money,’’ Kalawe foretell in the song, hence asking the country if we are ready to lose the Prophet sent down to earth from above and the rest is in the song.

Bushiri in releif action, carries maize for donation doing God's work

The South Africa-based Malawian Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) on Wednesday flew into Malawi where he personally helped distribute bags of maize  -a staple-food  in the nation – to thousands of people in 10 villages in the Traditional Authority (T.A) Chitukula in the rural Lilongwe to mark the resumption of his charity initiative which was suspended recently. [caption id="attachment_103250" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri in releif action, carries maize for donation doing God's work Bushiri in releif action, carries maize for donation doing God's work[/caption] Bushiri had complained that he was facing obstacles from Malawi government in his maize distribution and wrote a strong worded letter to President Peter Mutharika protesting. He resumed his humanitarian crusade  assisting the poor through his charity, Shepard Bushiri Aid (SBA) following the Malawi government clearance on the exercise. There has been calls by Members of Parliament in the National Assembly, asking the millionaire celebrity preacher to keep helping the starving citizens as hunger bites hard, mostly to the poor. On Wednesday, Bushiri distributed thousands of 25 Kilogram  bags of maize at Dedza Private Primary school at Area 25 in the capital Lilongwe and told the people that  the initiative was not meant for political reasons arguing that he believes in God who love hence is sharing the little he has to people. “I feel good to back in Malawi, my home to save God’s children through maize distribution following government endorsement over the exercise. I am here to show God’s love. This initiative it’s not meant to score political mirage because I believe in God who sends me to do this work whole heartedly,” said the Man of God who is famously called ‘Major 1’. Prophet Bushiri who was physically distributing the maize to the villagers said he will keep on giving out maize  to Malawians, saying  he was sourcing the maize in Zambia and other SADC countries. The ruling  Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament and comedian Bon Kalindo (Winiko) , former ministers Ralph Kasambara and Brown Mpinganjira were seen helping Bushiri carrying bags of maize to the beneficiaries in Lilongwe. Other notable people were politicians Hophmally Makande, Pika Manondo and Halima Daudi. Bushiri’s humanitarian support has taken him to Zomba, Lilongwe-Nathenje but failed to finish the exercise in Karonga due to government political bickering over the exercise. He has also assisted inmates at Mzuzu Prison. Bushiri will proceed to Mchinji and Salima on Thursday and Friday respectively as thousands villagers are expected to receive 25 kilogram of maize for free. The Prophet is making a difference and has touched and changed many lives, thousands have been fedand while the critics talk and question if his motives are genuine or not,  people are eating Nsima and they are thankful.

Kamlepo Kalua: OPC budget will be abused to fund DPP political campaigns

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri was not in Parliament on Friday but his e name caused storm nearly derailing deliberations as firebrand Rumphi east MP Kamlepo Kalua alleged the government want to secretly give cabinet ministers huge sums of money for campaigns and political machinisations using the bloated Office of President and Cabinet (OPC)  vote budget. [caption id="attachment_105337" align="alignright" width="321"]Kamlepo Kalua: OPC budget will be abused to fund DPP political campaigns Kamlepo Kalua: OPC budget will be abused to fund DPP political campaigns[/caption] Kamlepo said in his contribution that the government has ballooned the OPC budget from K6.5 billion to K9.7 billion, the highest increase amongst all. However, this did not go down well with Leader of the House, Francis Kasaira who told Kalua to always tell the truth as a Christian who worships at Prophet Bushiri's  Enlighted Christian Gathering, a statement that irked the firebrand politician who told the minister that it was wrong for him to mention Prophet Bushiri who was not in the House. As the two engaged in arguments, with Kasaira looking and sounding calm, Kalua's tempers flared up and warned the government side he was ready for any fight. "I am ready for any fight that you people can bring to me. When I was fighting for multiparty democracy, some of you were babies," said Kalua as some of the MPs on government side shouted wamisala!  [Mad man]. Kasaira said he was quoted out of context saying what he meant was that Kalua and him were both Christians and should aim to tell the truth. "I am a Christian too, am Catholic. Am not attacking you, I respect you. As Christians we should always say the truth," said Kasaira to the annoyance of Kalua who said matters of Christianity should be out of the House. Bushiri has many followers  among  Malawian politicians both in the governing DPP and opposition parties. Some MPs have been speaking highly of him in the House over his recent maize donations. First Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje ruled Kalua out of order for making allegations without evidence. MP kicked out However, Mchinji West MP  Billy Kanjila Banda was  sent out of the Chamber for repeatedly exchanging bitter words with  Chilenje. Chilenje had told the Mchinji West MP to withdraw his allegation that deputy ministers are earmarked to get K15 million whilst ministers will get a whopping K50 million for political exercises. When he was asked to withdraw the statement for lack of evidence, the MP accused Chilenje of being a Democratic Progressive Party sympathiser an issue that did not go down well with first deputy speaker. Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe explained that the K3 billion was pulled together by European Union, UNDP and Norway for Democracy Consolidation Programme. He said the OPC acts as a secretariat for the programme that involves human rights organisations like CHRR, Nice and Yoneco among others and radio stations that include Capital Radio and MBC. Gondwe therefore said the government cannot reduce the donor money.

Bushiri carrying the maize bag for a mother

The governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislature and party deputy spokesman Bon Kalindo has heaped praises to South Africa-based Malawian, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church International (ECG) for his relief support to people affected by hunger in Malawi. [caption id="attachment_105383" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri carried the maize to the beneficiaries Bushiri carried the maize to the beneficiaries[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105385" align="alignright" width="600"]Heads up with maize bags, beneficiaries take home the grain Heads up with maize bags, beneficiaries take home the grain[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105381" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri carrying the maize bag for a mother Bushiri carrying the maize bag for a mother[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105382" align="alignright" width="600"]Major 1 and his wife standing before a truck crrying the maize Major 1 and his wife standing before a truck crrying the maize[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105378" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri carring the relief maize to the starved Malawians Bushiri carring the relief maize to the starved Malawians[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105379" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri's maize given to Maula Prison Bushiri's maize given to Maula Prison[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105380" align="alignright" width="600"]Bushiri helping a woman carry the maize home Bushiri helping a woman carry the maize home[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105384" align="alignright" width="335"]Bushiri preaching about Jesus Christ before giving the maize Bushiri preaching about Jesus Christ before giving the maize[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105386" align="alignright" width="600"]Thousands carried home the donated maize from Bushiri and his Prophetic Channel aid Thousands carried home the donated maize from Bushiri and his Prophetic Channel aid[/caption] Kalindo was speaking in Mchinji when he joined Bushiri during the maize during his maize distribution exercise. “This is commendable. The Prophet has been distributing maize  without discrimination, giving  all in need regardless of the religious affiliation, political or tribe,” said Kalindo. He said the DPP government is pleased with the maize support Bushiri has given to the needy. Bushiri had suspended his maize donations  due to what he said were “obstacles from people “protecting President Peter Mutharika’s political interests”. The Man of God fondly called ‘Major 1’  had said the President’s royalists suspected he is eying presidential seat in the 2019 elections, hence their decision to frustrate his efforts. But government later allowed Bushiri to resume giving the maize. In his address, Kalindo said  government has no problems with Bushiri. “At first we questioned his relief work but there is no politics attached as you can all see,” said Kalindo. Bushiri stressed  he has  no intentions of joining politics now or in the near future, saying as a man of God with a prophetic anointing he is very contented with that. "I am doing this not only to a particular political party neither a religion. This is a demonstration of God's love to everyone,” said the Major 1. He added: “ Let me thank God for the presence of both political and religious people present with different backgrounds, yes, it's only God who can bring us together. do loves you all and this is a preaching to you that if you have something, it is good to share as such is God's love. “ Am happy that it's not the world that shall give me a crown but a day will come where on that day I shall receive a reward from God in heaven.” Bushiri said  he will continue to help in times of need. “I give not because I have, I give because God said we must give.” The Prophet also commended  President Peter Muthalika “for all the efforts he is doing to eradicate hunger.” He said: “ Let us help him eradicate hunger rather than just throwing stones on him. I believe God wants us help him rather than to point fingers at him.” Apart from Mchinji, Bushiri has been to Maula Prison and Dedza. He has ended his recent leg of donations after he previously gave out maize to Nathenje, Zomba, Karonga, Mzuzu , Dzenza and Mponela. About 3 million Malawians are facing food crisis due to the drought has hit many part of Southern Africa and floods that Malawi experienced last year.
